Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.
This represents his initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.
Success also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.
His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serving game.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to force a decider.
The opponent saved 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
