Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the judicial center on Friday

An individual who laced treats with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.

The accused was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.

The oversight body, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The legal representative said the children were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.

She stated the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
