Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
